The Dream Life Of Dragon Flies

Posted 10/28/2008 by smartblackboy in Labels: , , , ,

I saw dragonflies the size of small birds
lazing through the air like cymbal notes.

And I tried to remember
if dragonflies are hatched from eggs;

if they leave their umbilical cords
nestled in forgotten ferns covered with stardust.

Do dragonflies, too,
waste their short lives trying to regain
the magic and potential
of how they came into this world?

Birthed under a new moon
covered with sap and water
their wings still sticky
slung like guns
against their bodies.
